Enable automatic firmware updates to make sure you never miss out on the latest version. Staying up-to-date ensures that you have access to all available features.
Automatic firmware updates are available for all Oura active members, on iOS and Android. Gen3 rings must be on firmware version 2.9.11 or later in order to enable this feature. Oura Ring 4 must be on firmware version 2.0.0 or later.

What Are Automatic Firmware Updates?
When enabled, your Oura Ring firmware will update automatically as soon as a new version becomes available, without requiring any action on your part. You will see a "Firmware updated!" card whenever a new version is successfully installed.
How to Enable Automatic Updates
Automatic firmware updates are enabled by default. To change the settings for automatic updates:
- Go to the
menu in the upper left corner of the Oura App home screen
- Select Settings
- Scroll down to the "Software information" section and select Firmware
- Toggle Automatic update
From the firmware screen you can also see the current version that your ring is running, the date it was last updated, and any available update.
When automatic updates are enabled and a new firmware version is released, the update will start sending to your ring over Bluetooth the next time you open your Oura App. The update will continue in the background even if the app is closed.
If your phone and ring go out of Bluetooth range of one another, the update will pause and automatically resume the next time they are within range.
Troubleshooting Automatic Updates
If you've toggled the settings to "on" and your firmware hasn't been updating automatically, these scenarios might be preventing the update:
- You must open the Oura App at least once since the firmware release
- Ring battery must be at least 30%
- Airplane mode must be disabled
- Bluetooth must be enabled
- Automatic firmware updates will not run if Activity Heart Rate is active, or if you are using an Explore session that measures HR/HRV (marked by the
icon)
- Automatic firmware updates will not run if you are asleep and your ring is measuring nighttime biosignals
